Project Priorities

Project Priorities, selected in accordance with the current reality, are:

A. Addressing underachievement in the basic skills of maths, science and literacy through more effective, innovative teaching methods

B. Supporting schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage as well as to address all students from the lowest to the highest end of the academic spectrum

C. Improve achievement in relevant and high-level basic and transversal competences in a lifelong learning perspective.

Argument

Every school wants to have successful students. Unfortunately, the situation in most schools is different. The number of students who do not reach the expected level of basic skills in math, science and literature is still quite high. According to OECD's 2012 PISA results, the situation is worrying, especially in the current context. Favoured by the economic crisis, students from families with low material situation are potentially more likely to come into category of those who need the support of school to overcome low skills in core areas status. Our schools are no exception to this. We also found that there are groups susceptible to mediocre academic results, influencing future performance in our schools too. For this reason, “Addressing underachievement in the basic skills of maths, science and literacy through more effective, innovative teaching methods” is the central theme of our project. The project implementation will contribute significantly to reducing students’ number with school failure. For teachers, will be developed alternative teaching methods that help to identify new techniques useful to have a quality education. We will carry out an exchange of best practices and propose new methods that will be useful to teachers of any subject. In this way we hope to contribute to the decrease of students with low levels of basic skills. Changes in the level of students and teachers will contribute to positive assessment of the school, which we hope to positively affect the community.

Early school leaving can be considered a failure not only individually, but also the educational system. Therefore, „Supporting schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage as well as to address all students from the lowest to the high” is a goal of every society and every school. We are not an exception.

The Final Report of the Thematic Working Group on Early School Leaving, November 2013, made by European Commission say that our countries are above the European average in terms of the percentage of ESL. Being in our schools VET classes, we are more prone to this phenomenon. The trend is that students who choose this route have previously educational school failure, so they have a low respect for school. If at social level we cannot contribute to decreasing poverty families from which our students come, we intend to offer opportunities for these students to show them that knowledge is important. Learning is possible only if you believe that this is possible. Developing alternative learning methods, which rely on their skills acquired in non-formal system, on their passions, we intend to lead them to change their opinion about education in general and in particular about their own education. From this point of view we will complete a study of student’s common passions, which can be switched in learning opportunities. It's our way that we want to contribute to declining unemployment rate and social exclusion, poverty implicitly.

Final target that we propose through the development of this project is to contribute to „Open and innovative education, training and youth work, embedded in the digital era”.  Using new methods and technologies that we will develop within the project we will promote communication between students and at school level and will facilitate communication with students from different nationalities. We want to contribute in this way to change the behaviour of students, in terms of emotional, intellectual and educational. Students will have the chance to become aware of their own potential, contributing to the formation of an active citizen, from European vision, to have free access to its values.

The project aims to enrol in priorities of Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, multi-stakeholder partnership coordinated by European Commission, addressing in particular to one of its key priorities „Innovative learning and teaching ...so that students get the skills for success”.

Our project is firmly rooted priorities above, in an innovative way that will have an open character. The results that we propose we want to be transferable and contribute to changing educational policies in the field. Activities will have an open character, linking school of society. Using outside the school environment as a “data source”, developing basic skills and extensive in the current European vision, will help to open the school to society. By increased access to culture and civilization, students will become changemakers vectors of collective mentality, reported to school and education in general sense.

 Mobile devices and learning outside the classroom can be used to facilitate Education for Sustainable Development. It is a process of fairness that we want, increasing access for people with reduced opportunities for disadvantaged people or to otherwise inaccessible resources. We want to develop methods that will be transferable and that we offer to those who want to use them.
